Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
