Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby encompasses a group of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The song showcases a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
