Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Capital Punishment

Democratic officials demonstrated outrage after Donald Trump charged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and stated they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Recording That Sparked the Controversy

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who previously served in defense or security positions.

"Like us, you all made an pledge to defend and uphold this constitution," the representatives declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the threats to our constitution aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our regulations are explicit, you can reject unlawful commands, you can refuse unlawful commands, you must refuse improper directives. No one has to execute commands that contravene the statutes or our national charter."

Trump's Furious Reply

The clip seemed to trigger a furious reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This constitutes really concerning, and Dangerous to our Country. Their statements cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats released a combined statement denouncing the remarks.

"Violent politics has no place in the United States," they wrote. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all worked our country with great patriotism and honor. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's appalling and harmful threats of violence against members of Congress, and urge GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the protection of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these radical online messages and withdraw his violent discourse before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Lawmakers' Defiant Reaction

The officials who participated in the video also issued a statement.

"We serve as former service members and security experts who love this country and took an oath to defend and support the national charter of the United States," they said. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we aim to honor it. No threat, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that fundamental duty."

"The significant point is that the former president views it punishable by death for us to reiterate the law," they added. "Military personnel should understand that we have their protection as they execute their pledge to the national charter and responsibility to follow only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "Every American must unite and denounce the ex-president's requests for our death and ideological conflict. This is a time for principled stance."

Additional Governmental Reactions

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is demanding the execution of government members."

He stated: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, every American – regardless of party – should censure this right away and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This represents very risky, you have leading members of the government instructing troops to ignore directives, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also according to sources stated to media outlets that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a administration briefing on that day, when asked by a reporter, "Does the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson declared. "You have active officials of the US Congress who conspired to organize a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to current military personnel encouraging them to defy the president's proper directives."

She stated: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is violated, it can cause fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that's what these members of Congress ... are essentially encouraging."
