Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
