Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
